CVGS Goes to Richmond

On Monday, January 23, 2017, six CVGS students went with Dr. Smith to Richmond to meet with area legislators. The delegation included four seniors, Madi Alvis (Rustburg High School), Julia Grier (Jefferson Forest High School), Summer Rucker (Amherst), and Hannah Schrock (William Campbell Combined School), and two juniors, Skylar Wilhoit (Appomattox) and Carson Wood (EC Glass High School). The students had appointments with House delegates Kathy Byron, Ben Cline, Matt Farris, and Scott Garrett, as well as with Senator Steve Newman.

Following their meetings, the students observed the House proceedings from the Gallery and were introduced to the House by Delegate Garrett. In their meetings the students shared their perspectives on the value of the opportunities provided at CVGS and state funding for K-12 education in general and Academic Year Governor's Schools in specific. A few photos from the day will be posted on our CVGS FaceBook page soon. These six students did an outstanding job representing the Central Virginia Governor's School, their home high schools, and K-12 education in Commonwealth in general, and we appreciate the time and energy they invested in this trip very much!
